Our Story
Herocut® was founded in 2022 by a group of welding engineers and fabricators who were frustrated with the limited selection and high prices of plasma cutters and welders available to the average consumer or small business. We set out to design and manufacture our own line of plasma cutters and MIG welders that offered professional-grade cutting and welding capacity at prices affordable for home garages, small shops, maintenance crews, artists, and DIYers.
After years of research, development, and testing, we proudly released our first plasma cutter in 2023 – the Herocut® 40P. Featuring a compact yet rugged design, intuitive controls, and a max cutting thickness of 3/4″, the 40P delivered unprecedented cut quality and durability at its price point. It was an instant hit among metalworkers and quickly built up a loyal following.
Bolstered by the success of the 40P, we expanded our catalog to include MIG welders, TIG welders, consumables like torches and tips, welding wire, and accessories like welding helmets and cutting guides. Throughout this growth, we’ve maintained our commitment to providing amateur and professional fabricators alike with the tools they need to take their skills to the next level.

Our Facility
Our 30,000 square foot facility in Detroit, Michigan is home to our equipment fabrication shop, R&D lab, training center, and more. This vertically integrated setup allows us to closely control quality and lead times while rapidly prototyping and testing new product designs. Some key features include:

Leadership
- John Simmons, Founder & CEO John started Herocut in his home garage in 2022 after being dissatisfied with the plasma cutters and welders available to consumers and small businesses. He leads the company with a relentless focus on product quality, customer service, and community impact. When he’s not busy pushing product innovation and growing the business, John enjoys restoring vintage European sports cars in his own home welding shop.
- Julia Rhodes, COO & Co-Founder Julia brings decades of experience in manufacturing and operational excellence from roles at several major industrial companies. As COO, she oversees daily operations, supply chain management, and lean process improvements. On weekends you can find Julia tackling welding projects on her family’s farm.
- John Wong, Chief Engineer John oversees our team of mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to drive product design and R&D. He holds advanced degrees in welding engineering and metallurgy which he leverages to design innovative equipment with unmatched performance and durability.

- Stan Washington, Warehouse Manager Stan oversees inventory and logistics in our 30,000 square foot warehouse. He ensures quick, accurate order fulfillment and shipping so customers receive their new equipment fast.
